What Gets Re-Pinned Most on Pinterest?

Some people have a Pinterest account because they enjoy a website which is particularly visual. If you’ve never visited Pinterest, look at the screenshot below to see what I mean.

.

Using Pinterest for Business

But there are others who use Pinterest as a tool for business. In a previous post, I mentioned how Pinterest could be useful for bloggers. Of course, the blogs which are successful must be visual. As for businesses, the same rule applies. If you have an online fashion store, Pinterest could be helpful. The same could be said if you are a travel agent. Pictures of exotic locations are likely to get pinned and re-pinned.

Today, I’m doing a test on different photos to see which ones will get re-pinned most often. I just found out that I can pin this blog post any number of times, something I’m sure Pinterest will fix in the future, but at the moment, it will fit my needs.

Below, you will see a photo of a travel destination, a book, a movie, and a couple fashion photos. I will pin this blog post on Pinterest and add each of the photos. I will report back to you if I find any results worth while.

My Pinterest Test

A rubber stamp with one of my favorite Bible verses on it may get pinned by Christian pinners. We’ll see.

Sometimes people will pin a movie post because they simply love the movie. These pins often go to someone’s “My Favorites” bulletin board.

I need your input

Okay, that’s our test. I’ll report back any interesting findings. If you have any interesting Pinterest experiences, please share them here. I’d especially like to know if you have seen any particular items that are pinned quite often.

Thanks,

Is Social Media Network Pinterest Useful for Bloggers

How I Discovered Pinterest

Of all social media networks, Pinterest ranks right behind Google Plus (G+) in terms of monthly users. As quickly as Pinterest is growing, their ranking behind Google + may have changed by the time you read this post.

I first heard of Pinterest when I interviewed Amy Guth, social media manager for the Tribune Corporation last year for GotInterviews.com. In one of my questions, I had asked Amy to name her favorite social media networks. She listed Twitter and Pinterest.

I’m sort of ashamed to admit that I didn’t yet know about Pinterested at that time. The name didn’t even intrigue me enough to cause me to Google the social network. A little over a month ago, after reading about Pinterest on almost every social media and online marketing blog I visited, I finally decided to give Pinterest a try.

Pinterest for Bloggers

If you’re a blogger and enjoy driving traffic to your blog, you may want to give Pinterest a try. I don’t claim to be a Pinterest pro, but I do enjoy the traffic I receive from the rapidly growing social network.

Pinterest is good for bloggers, but it’s not the best way to drive traffic to ALL blogs. If you want to promote blog posts with Pinterest, make sure you use pictures in your blog posts or better yet, only promote visually appealing blogs. Some of the best types of blogs to promote with Pinterest are travel blogs and artistic blogs such as your photography portfolio (phootblog), fashion blogs, review sites. Recipe or cooking blogs are a few other platforms easily promoted through Pinterest.

I have to admit, I have not had a lot of success at promoting blog posts through Twitter and Facebook. THe lack of successful blog promotion via traditional social media has caused the trickle of visitors from Pinterest I receive look like the Nile at flood stage to me.

You will want to learn more about this latest social media obsession called Pinterest. I will be writing more blog posts about Pinterest in the near future. Until then, go over to Pinterest for the first time and sign up. If you’ve already received an invite, go back to Pinterest and browse around. I spoke to a friend recently who says the first thing she does on the internet is visit news sites, and because the news is so depressing, she then goes to Pinterest to cheer up. I can see her point. Pictures are a happy thing to look at and Pinterest has a lot of pictures, in fact, that’s about all it is, oh yeah, and comments on pictures.

Your Experiences

Are you like Amy Guth, a long-time fan of Pinterest, maybe one of their first 100,000 users? What have your experiences been with the social network? Please comment below to let my readers know if Pinterest has changed from when you first signed up, whether or not it is worthwhile to add this network to the others people may already be using. I would like to also know if you have found unique ways Pinterest can be useful for blogging.

Thanks for anything you can add to this post. It’s much appreciated.

Does Your Church Need a Freelance Social Media Manager?

Tweak Your Twitter Account and More

Here are five signs your congregation may need the services of a freelance social media manager:

1) The church Twitter account profile picture is an egg.

2) The church email inbox is filled with friend requests from Xanga, Friendster and MySpace.

3) Your ministry staff thinks Google + is half a math problem.

4) People call the church office wondering if the minister will ever reply to their tweet.

5) The minister thinks foursquare is a religious denomination.

Now that you’ve had as much geeky social media hilarity that any one person should have to endure in a lifetime, let us focus on the congregation at which you minister or work at in some other capacity.

Church Problems

What are the most pressing problems facing your congregation? Some of your chief concerns may a steady ten year drop in attendance, church members who are not growing spiritually or a lack of inspiration in church members to go out and do good in your community.

What would your church board or elders think is more pressing, the above mentioned items or making sure you have a great social media strategy? I think that’s an easy answer to guess.

It’s most likely your church board or elders or other form of hierarchy at your congregation will want the visible problems addressed before you begin what is to many, an invisible strategy of using social media networks like Twitter, Facebook and Google+.

Evangelistic Tweeting

Before reading any further, please understand that simply implementing the use of social media by your church ministers or church members will not result in increased attendance. But if used correctly by ministers and members alike, social media will get you into the lives of people in your community.

Let’s Work Together

You can have your proverbial cake and eat it too. You can implement a social media strategy and work on the pressing problems facing your congregation at the same time. The hiring of a freelance social media manager can help.

Bad Customer Service From Tom Thumb / Safeway

Maybe it was just bad customer relations instead

I’m not sure if the title of this post should be bad customer service from Tom Thumb or bad customer relations at Tom Thumb.

Actually, the service was timely. I didn’t have to wait on the phone long to find out I was just out of luck when it came to my complaint. I am not a happy customer at all. I thought there may be some way to accommodate me. A $10.00 off Lucerne products coupon would have made me ecstatic and would have changed the entire tone of this blog post. I actually would have written a positive blog post instead of one bemoaning the bad customer service I received from Tom Thumb. I’ve complemented companies before in other blog posts when they treat me right. Those companies have been GoDaddy, Bank America and In-n-Out Burger.

I could really use a discount on gas

Tom Thumb has a rewards card which offers discounts to loyal shoppers. If a shopper obtains 100 points during a one month period, they earn (1) gas reward equaling 10 cents off a gallon. In my case, as a very loyal shopper, I earn 30 cents off a gallon, at least until the end of April. Did you read that correctly? Thirty cents off a gallon is a lot of money these days.

The last time I went to Tom Thumb for gas, I expected to get 30 cents off a gallon, but instead only received a 3 cent discount. I was amazed, not mad, just amazed. I swore there had to be some mistake. I even looked at my receipt and read the rules:

Your rewards are on the Fast Track!
100 points = three 10 cents off
(30 cents) per gal Gas Rewards
Earn thru 4/30/2012.

.

Collect rewards to earn up to $1 per
gal on a single fill-up at
Participating gas stations

Gas rewards expire at the end of the
following month in which they were
earned. See updated terms and
conditions at our website.

I related my problem to the customer service operator. She dutifully explained that rewards earned in one month expire at the end of the following month. I said I understood that so I wondered where did my reward points go at the end of March? I had 77 of them. She further explained that 77 points do not equal a gas reward. A gas reward is only earned at 100 points. “Duh, how dumb can you be you stupid customer?” To be fair, she didn’t say that audibly.

Is what I call bad customer service from Tom Thumb simply legalism?

Tom Thumb was right, at least legally. But what I think they do is mislead their loyal customers. In the terrible economy that is 2012 and in a time of the highest gas prices in American history, some of their customers could use that extra 30 cents off a gallon of gas. On their receipts, it says to go to their website for updated terms and conditions, not to see additional rules they omit from the receipt. If their receipt had said, points towards rewards expire at the end of each month, I would have bought more food and earned my 30 cent a gallon gas discount. They could have done that, but if they had, Tom Thumb would probably have sold gas cheaper to thousands of dumb people like me who have confused points towards rewards with actual gas rewards.

I’ll never make that mistake again nor will I make the mistake of shopping regularly at Tom Thumb. I’ll still go there once in a while for absolute necessities, but it looks like Kroger and Albertson’s for my regular shopping.

Please share this with others who tend to shop at Tom Thumb…thanks
