What the Bible Teaches About Blogging

Bible Basics of Blogging

I'm amazed by all the real life stuff we can learn from the Bible, even tips about blogging.

Be Nice

Don’t use your blog as a platform for attacks on others or as a constant stream of negativity i.e. complaints or rants. People don’t want to be brought down. After all, life is tough enough in the real world without reading negative blog posts. People want to be lifted up. Do that instead. A blog is a great place to elevate others. Encouarge your readers with helpful hints and positive posts.

Bible Verse: Colossians 3:12 –Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience.

Be Persistent

In the Bible there’s a story about Paul who compared the Christian life to a race which can be won if the participant keeps running, despite any difficulty that is thrown in their path.

The same can be said about blogging. Don’t believe me, ask John Chow or Darren Rowse. Be persistent with your posts. Blogging is like running a marathon. You can’t win a marathon with bursts of energy, sprints, sometimes standing still for a while and then jogging.

With your blog, post regularly. Do not post six interesting articles on Saturday and post one more article six weeks later, followed by two more the next Wednesday. Once a week is good and daily is best. Whatever you do with your blog, make sure you are persistent. That’s also a good rule to follow with all you do in life.

Bible Verse: Matthew 10:22 –…the person who patiently endures to the end will be saved.

Be Unique

While not a hard and fast rule in blogging, being unique helps. Why post the same exact content everyone else is posting? Although you may post similar content as found on other blogs, you have a unique point of view. Make sure that is shown in each of your blog posts.

Bible Verse: Psalm 139:14 (msg) –
Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out;
you formed me in my mother’s womb.
I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking!
Body and soul, I am marvelously made!
I worship in adoration—what a creation!
You know me inside and out,
you know every bone in my body;
You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit,
how I was sculpted from nothing into something.
Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth

Your Turn

Do you see any other helpful hints the Bible offers bloggers? What about the rules of persistently posting unique and helpful posts, do you find they attract the most readers?
